During this year's Halifax Pride Parade back in July 2013, Tempo Food + Drink put on a bake sale where 100% of all proceeds would go to The Youth Project. Although by no means ambitious, we wanted to do our part in order to show support in our community. As a restaurant, we believe in honouring the qualities that make great neighbourhoods - ones that are inclusive, welcoming, and value relationships as much as commerce. Communities that are based on caring and supportiveness - where people can just be themselves.
Which is why… The Youth Project was an ideal choice for our donation of $200. The Youth Project is a non-profit charitable organization that has a mission to provide support and services to youth (25 and under) around issues of sexual orientation and gender identity. Their goal is to make Nova Scotia a safer, healthier, and happier place for LGBT youth through support, education, resource expansion and community development.
Mike Scaife (our restaurant manager) and Tan-Nee Ng (our social media guru) met up with The Youth Project's Executive Director, Leighann Wichman, and their Support Services Coordinator, Sheena Jamieson to get a tour of their facilities and to deliver some afternoon treats from our Grab + Go. Here are some of our favourite pictures from the trip:
